Hong Seh Yachting will be alongside their principal Ferretti Group at the upcoming Singapore Yachting Festival 2024 (SYF 2024) to showcase an intriguing line-up of yachts from Wally, Riva, and Ferretti Yachts. The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s Rolex China Sea Race 2024 started on Wednesday 27 March 2024.  All 21 yachts got off to a clean start in the stunning Hong Kong Victoria Harbour. APSA Founder Member Peter Churchouse has been racing this offshore classic since the early 80s, and this year Moonblue 2, his custom-designed Warwick 65, is competing in the Premier Cruising division.

April sees the return of the Singapore Yachting Festival (SYF) after a highly successful inaugural event in 2023. The SYF will take place 25-28 April 2024 at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove. With over 70 yachts on display and an abundance of F&B, entertainment, and immersive activities on offer, visitors will be able to fully engage in the yachting lifestyle. APSA is a Supporting Partner for the SYF, and we look forward to welcoming superyachts to the event this year. The inaugural Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit is taking place in Hong Kong on the 5 and 6 of June, at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel. Sanlorenzo S.p.A. (“Sanlorenzo” or the “Company” or the “Group”) announces the closing, on 5th March 2024, of the acquisition of 95% of share capital of Simpson Marine Limited (“Simpson Marine”) from Mike Simpson, for an equity consideration of USD 10 million, plus an earn-out up to USD 7 million calculated on the net profit for the 2023 fiscal year.

Horizon Yachts Open House 2024 embraced the theme “Welcome Home” and over 300 guests attended the three-day event held on March 5–7 at the Horizon Yachts Group headquarters in Kaohsiung. Owners, guests, global partners, and international press celebrated the world debut of four brand-new yachts. Over 200 guests were welcomed by Horizon Group Founder and CEO, John Lu to the Gala Dinner on the first night of the three-day event.

On March 16th, at the historic Benetti shipyard in Viareggio, M/Y Papa Joe”, the seventh unit of Diamond 44M, took to the water during the traditional and exciting slide launching ceremony. The yacht, with external lines designed by Giorgio Maria Cassetta and interiors designed by the Benetti Style Department, will be the family boat of the owner who, collaborating closely with the Shipyard, wanted to make it his second home.  

The Anambas Islands Archipelago in Indonesia is now being recognised as a new and exceedingly attractive South China Sea cruising destination, thanks to a huge improvement in facilities and the ease of clearing yachts in and out. This collection of over 200 small Indonesian islands is part of the Indonesian Riau Islands Province.

Rivergate Marina & Shipyard teamed up with Catalano Shipping Services New Zealand to host the 2024 Auckland Captains’ Long Lunch at Homeland Dining Room, superbly located on the waterfront at Viaduct Harbour in the heart of the marine precinct. A diverse group of 26 international Captains, industry proponents, and agents, along with Steve Fisher, Alex Binks, and Sarah Toxward from Rivergate, gathered for an appetizing lunch featuring the freshest local seafood and regional produce.

In anticipation of a surge in vessel traffic, Port Denarau is set to undergo significant infrastructure upgrades and improvements throughout the year. Port Denarau CEO Cynthia Rasch told Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) recently that these enhancements aim to enhance the overall experience for yacht owners, crew members, and visitors, solidifying Port Denarau’s status as a premier yachting destination and a bustling tourist hub.

 March was a very busy month for the yachting community in Oceania, with a flurry of events taking place in both New Zealand and Australia. In partnership with the 2024 Auckland boat show, The Superyacht Gathering’s annual Long Lunch took place on Waiheke Island on March 14th, 2024.

Spring is an active time for APSA in Asia, and the next event on the superyacht schedule is APSA member Horizon’s biennial Open House, a celebration of yachts, culture and innovation being held at the shipyard’s facilities in Kaohsiung, 5-7 March 2024. Over 100 superyacht owners, agents, brokers, and industry professionals will gather for three days of entertainment, superyacht launches, yacht hops, cocktail parties, and gala dinners. I am very much looking to forward to attending the personalised tours of the Horizon Group’s expanded, cutting-edge shipyard facilities, and the insider's view to where the magic happens in crafting these world class vessels.
