The last couple of years have been the busiest on record for superyacht brokerage, according to several of the international brokerage houses. Plus, charter is also back on track to pre-Covid levels. This is a great time to be promoting the Asia-Pacific region to the wider superyacht community, and this will be APSA’s focus going forward. News this month includes the new provincial order issued by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew on 25th June which confirms the easing of COVID measures for international arrivals, including visiting yachts, which comes into effect as of 1st July 2022.

As of July 1st 2022, there has been a new provincial order issued by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew on June 25th which has confirmed the easing of COVID measures for international arrivals, including visiting yachts, come into effect. It is welcome news to international visitors arriving by land, air, and sea to learn of sweeping changes to Thailand’s entry requirements.

There has been a lot happening on the superyacht scene around the world, and the second half of 2022 looks to be busier than ever. For those APSA Members planning to attend the Monaco Yacht Show this year, please make sure you put a ‘Save the Date’ in your calendar for Tuesday 27 September when the legendary ‘APSA Superyacht Night’ will be held on the rooftop of the Novotel Hotel Monaco.

Tourism operators have reached an agreement with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to implement a visa fee exemption for international arrivals, and an eligibility extension for visitors from nations not requiring a visa to enter the country, from 30 to 45 days during the second half of this year, as reported in the Bangkok Post 12 June 2022.

For full Russian Sanctions and the Yachting Industry: As the readers will be only too aware, the UK, EU, US, and other countries including Australia, Japan and Canada have imposed unprecedented measures against Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine and subsequent events. Sanctions have been imposed in a series of waves in the weeks since the invasion and it is expected that they will continue to be expanded.

Technical experts from across the Red Ensign Group have been engaging with the superyacht industry on the REG Yacht Code. Chaired by Julian Smith from the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry, the two-day event was held in May at the Superyacht Builder’s Association (SYBAss) in Amsterdam. Julian said: “These events are real opportunities to discuss standards of safety and pollution prevention set out by the REG Yacht Code.”

After four days, just shy of 5,000 smiling visitors made some big purchases, and TYS exhibitors and partners alike unanimously agreed that it was good to be back at a yacht show, networking with the industry again and that TYS Pattaya was exactly what the yacht industry needed.
