Yachting industry in Sri Lanka

The foundations for the Sail Lanka Yachting Group can be found in the Building A Future Foundation, a long term project created to provide training and employment to underprivileged youth following the tsunami disaster of end 2004. The focus of the Foundation is to develop skills that will seed the yachting industry, and a major part of the project is supporting businesses that help to develop the recreational boat industry, as well create of sustainable jobs for hundreds of talented youth.

In 2020 the SLYG has help to establish a state-of-the-art boatyard capable of producing yachts up to 27m, a naval architecture design office, and a chartering company Sail Lanka Charter that operates a fleet of eight large sailing catamarans Ceycat from 47 to 53 feet. The real game changer was the building of superyacht Ocean Diamond 27, a floating boutique hotel recently launched in Sri Lankan waters.

Marinas and boatyards are also an essential part of Sri Lanka's Nautical Tourism Promotion Plan, and SLYG is excited to announce the completion of the first pontoon in the Colombo City Marina. Sir Lanka is the perfect stopover point between Europe and Asia, and the Colombo City Marina welcomes sailors to come sailing in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
