Welcome Address by Fok Ying Tung Group Chairman, International Olympic Committee Honorary Member Mr. Timothy Fok

”These 4 days have become a real festival of sailing culture all of us enjoyed. We truly did “Embrace the Spirit of the Ancient Maritime Route in Nansha”. Apart from the challenging competitions we all had a joy to watch, the Regatta has also become an important communication platform that brought together sailors from different countries, of different ages and backgrounds, but all united with one passion—great passion for the sport of sailing. And I believe that many of those who visited the Regatta during these days have become inspired by them.”

Rise sails in Nansha, feel the energy of “the fast and furious”

Seven teams representing Brunei, China, Hong Kong (China SAR), India, Russia, Singapore and Thailand combated their battles in the water area to the north of the busy Humen Bridge, which less than a year ago saw the Volvo Ocean Race sailors fighting for the In-port race victory in the exact same area. Despite of a dramatic temperature drop, cold wind and rain the battles on the water were really fierce. The teams showed excellent skills and true sailing spirit, and till the very last minute the names of the winners were undecided.

Live broadcast with professional commentary was organized on a big screen in the center of the Race Village, so that the Regatta visitors had a chance to watch the races in real time and get the spirit of the battles taking place in the waters outside the marina basin.

After 3 days and 7 rounds of intense racing, with the top teams changing after each race, the complete results were finally announced:

3rd Place: Team of India

2nd Place: Team of Singapore

1st Place: Team of Hong Kong (CHN SAR)

The congratulatory Awards Presenting Ceremony wasn’t the only highlight of the evening. A range of spectacular performances, including the “Thousand-hand Guanyin” dance, “Xiguan Dance”, “Sailing Baby Dancing Performance” and unique sand painting performance added the touches of traditional culture and created a festive atmosphere of the night.
