Island escapes and yacht charter adventures in the Maldives

Cherish new-found freedom in 2021 with the ultimate getaway in the Maldives, where heavenly beaches are lapped by the cerulean sea and you can do as much or as little as you desire. This brief guide will give you an introduction to what there is on offer in this archipelago nation for revelry and relaxation alike.

What is there to see and do in the Maldives?

The answer to both is not much...and everything!

Reconnect with nature in pristine environments and encounter a colourful world just under the surface, feel the adrenaline rush that comes with a jet ski or towable toys, and lie back on the beach once you've seen and done it all to savour a cocktail as you unwind in the shade. Make use of the resort spa services for a massage to release aching muscles, and prepare for a fine dining experience like no other at one of the submerged restaurants, where the international cuisine is of exceptional standard.

If you want a greater appreciation of the history and culture of the islands, Male has a collection of museums, a library and art gallery all located within Sultan Park. It's important to note that even though the Maldivian Rufiyaa is the island nation's official currency, US dollars are also accepted and give a slightly better exchange rate. Cards are accepted in the resorts and it's always good to carry some cash, which should be withdrawn before you leave Male.

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

The Maldives has a wet season and a dry season, the latter running from December until May. The weather is always wonderfully warm around 28°C/82°F and the clear waters are not much cooler, making excellent conditions for beginner Scuba divers to learn in. November through to March is also an excellent time to fish for big game. There are several reasons to visit during the wet season: Surf season in the Kaafu Atoll takes place from April to October, and from June to November manta rays flock to the Hanifaru Marine Protected Area, which is worth visiting in whichever season you visit.

What accommodation options are available?

Although there are hotels in the heart of Male and budget accommodation across the inhabited islands, luxury resorts are by far the most popular option for staying in the Maldives. Have your own private jetty and wake to spectacular sunrises or beautiful sunsets with a villa over the water. There is likely to be a swimming pool on-site as well as the option of swimming in the sea and snorkelling around the resort reef, and entertainment options such as watersports are plentiful. It's also worth noting that as an Islamic country, alcohol is not allowed outside of the resorts, so if you want to party through the night and savour colourful cocktails, the resorts are the place to go.

The Baa Atoll and Lhaviyani Atoll are just north of the Kaafu Atoll where Male is located, and all three of these destinations are fantastic destinations for watersports and luscious beaches without leaving the rest of the world behind entirely. The Addu Atoll is the farthest south, and a great place for diving adventures: The BRITISH LOYALTY is the Maldives' most famous wreck and it lies close to Villingili.

Another option for exploring the various atolls is to choose a luxury yacht charter, which means that you are free to roam from one atoll to the next and reach the best snorkel and dive sites before anyone else arrives. Motor yacht SAFIRA is one example of the exceptional quality vessels available for charter in the Maldives. She is designed for diving and fishing expeditions and has experts on board to give you the best experiences for these activities. There is accommodation for up to 18 guests over nine en-suite cabins, a large salon with games consoles and a large film library, spa massage facilities, a Jacuzzi, sunbathing areas and indoor and outdoor dining options along with two bars.  It is possible to serve/consume alcohol on yachts; with proper license and permits; which can be arranged via the local chosen agent.

The Maldives is a destination worth discovering for couples, friends and family groups of all ages: Turn temptation into travel and see its wonders for yourself in 2021.
