Chairman’s Message, February 2023

Asia is back in action. The Singapore Yachting Festival has just been announced, and it will take place on the 27-30 April at One˚15 Marina. We have just heard that the Japanese government has made very favourable amendments to rules regarding yacht crew and the length of time they can stay onboard foreign flagged yachts in Japanese waters. The 3rd ‘Sail the Andamans’ Yacht Rally & Carnival is being held 20 February - 21 March 2023 which is an excellent opportunity to experience the Andaman & Nicobar Islands - a magical yachting destination.

Looking forward to March, APSA will be heading to the Dubai International Yacht Show and participating in the Middle East Yachting Conference 28 February - 5 March, so if you or any of your team are planning to be there, please let us know so we can arrange a meeting. On 11 March, the annual Superyacht Australia Soirée returns for its fourth year, showcasing the superyacht luxury lifestyle with a display of vessels, a Yacht Hop and unique offerings from partners and sponsors at the iconic Jones Bay Marina located in the heart of Sydney Harbour. Superyacht Australia has also recently released two more Australia In Depth videos; one that looks at ‘Luxury Escapes’ in Australia, and another that shows cruising opportunities in the South Pacific.

Sevenstar Yacht Transportation is bringing more and more yachts to the Asia-Pacific region, while Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM) recently announced that they are one of the founding Industry partners of the new Boating Industry Academy that has been established by a partnership between the Boating Industry Association (BIA) and the Australian Industry Trade College (AITC). This is the first industry-driven programme in Australia for high school students wishing to pursue a career in the leisure marine industry and will hopefully prove to be a catalyst for more (and similar) initiatives in Asia-Pacific where the boating industry is growing at an exponential rate.

Looking ahead: planning is already underway for the next APSA Asia Superyacht Night in Monaco, so remember to ‘Save the Date’ for Tuesday 26 September. We promise it will be a night to remember!

Looking forward to seeing you at shows and events in the Asia-Pacific!

Nigel Beatty
