Asia Pacific Boating Managing Editor

Long-time Hong Konger, Andrew Dembina – originally from London – has re-joined Asia Pacific Boating (APB) and will be leading the magazine as Managing Editor. He has written about yachting for Asian and UK publications, and enjoys deepening insights into the minds of owners, brokers, shipyards and designers of sailing and motor craft, and into ever-morphing marine and yachting trends.

In his last stint at APB, which ended a couple of years ago, some of his most memorable moments were, without doubt sea trials of new yachts in Hong Kong – where the publication was founded 45 years ago, and still is, based. Other highlights included the whirlwind of walk-throughs, sea trials, premiere presentations, seminars, and countless boat and marine toys and equipment inspections at both the Singapore Yacht Festival (SYS) and at the Cannes Yachting Festival. A visit to the shipyards around Gdansk, in northern Poland in 2019 was also fascinating; long a contract shipyard region for some of the world’s luxury yacht brands, this visit left a lasting impression of the dynamic development of the country’s mission to raise its game with its domestic brands of both sailing and motorised yachts.

APB, a bi-monthly magazine includes our signature detailed Spotlight yacht feature-reviews that often highlight the visually arresting world of luxury superyachts, and include both charters and private vessels, delving into the engineering that goes on behind the scenes. With the yachting world now acutely aware of the dangers facing our oceans, APB now strives to be a leading voice for ocean conservation, with the addition of our Blue Planet section, which presents regular guest columns and features from eminent scientists and researchers. In normal times we feature great boating destinations that showcase both the stories and hidden gems of the Asia-Pacific, covering elements from the best of deep-sea fishing to amazing coastal cultural sites, plus news on marinas, clubs and associated diversions.

Some of this magazine content is shared on our lively website (https://asia-pacificboating.com) that also posts online-only stories.
