The 2nd Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta to be held at Nansha Marina, Guangzhou from 6 to 9 December 2018
After a successful launch of the inaugural Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta at the end of July, 2017, the Organizer-- the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality—confirmed that the 2nd Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta will be held in a due course, as well as announced the dates of the 2018 edition: December 6-9, 2018, venue—Nansha Marina.
The inaugural Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta was established to give a new impetus to the development of sailing in the region, popularize water sports and activities among the citizens of the area, “prepare” the local public for the arrival of the Volvo Ocean Race in Guangzhou in winter 2018. The 1st Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta, held under the authority of the Asian Sailing Federation, opened a new chapter in the history of Guangzhou sailing. A three-day event attracted more than 6000 visitors, 38 Exhibitors and more than 40 Press& Media. Seven teams representing China, Hong Kong (China SAR), Chinese Taipei, India, Malaysia, Russia and Singapore competed in a series of 6 races during the 3 days of the Regatta. The team of Singapore became the 1st Champion of the Guangzhou Nansha Sailing Regatta. Russian all-women team won the 2nd prize, and the team of India took home the 3rd prize
With a professional sailing competition as the main focus, the Regatta also incorporated a number of significant activations, entertainments and displays—Yacht CN 2017 International Boat Show, OP sailing performances, on-water experience for the public, art exhibition, on-site entertainments and performances—all these was highly favored by the public. Regatta became a perfect preview of the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18—China Guangzhou Stopover that was hosted by Guangzhou half a year later, from Jan 31st to Feb 5th, 2018.
Due to a successfully held 1st Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta and Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18—China Guangzhou Stopover, the city has gained the reputation of a fast-growing sailing hub in the South China region, internationally recognized and acknowledged, with broad perspectives and development potential.
Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta 2018 will incorporate the best of the previous year features, as well as introduce a number of new exciting ones.
The Organizer will invite sailing teams from countries along the Ancient Maritime Silk Route to compete in a series of Races in the water area next to Nansha Marina to win the “Nansha Maritime Silk Route Challenge Cup”. Eight teams are expected to join the Regatta. The top 3 teams will be awarded prizes, and the top team will have the name of the country they represent engraved onto the Nansha Maritime Silk Route Challenge Cup.
Apart from a series of challenging races for the main trophy among professionals, the 2nd Guangzhou Nansha International Sailing Regatta will also prepare a wide range of activities & entertainments for all tastes every day during the event. Here is a short pre-view of what the visitors will be able to see at the Regatta’s venue: exciting OP sailing performances, impressive on-land and on-water Yacht CN exhibits, FE 26 sailing experience, “Guangdong—Hong Kong—Macau Greater Bay Area” sports industry forum, a series of VIP sailing experiences, traditional Chinese culture experience corner, 3D Fantastic Underwater World, VR-experience pavilion, “Sailing Baby” contest, etc. And as this is a non-profit event organized by the Government, the access to the Regatta venue will be absolutely free of charge.
