Sail Lanka Yachting Group Expands
Sail Lanka Yachting Group is happy to announce the launch the second Ocean Diamond by the end of the year. Now under construction in the Welipatanwila boatyard, in the South of Sri Lanka the shipyard has started the infusion process. Ocean Diamond offers endless comfort with its modern and peaceful interiors created by the in-house design team. From the sky lounge, the spacious professional restaurant, to the 10 comfortable cabins, guests enjoy both sailing and the sea.
Sail Lanka Yachting Group is currently building a new boatyard and training center facility in Jaffna, and the aim of this project is to establish a training center and a boatyard in the northern part of Sri Lanka, a region that was severely affected by the civil war from 1983 to 2009.
The training center will provide boat building training for underprivileged Tamil youth, with the aim of replicating the successful model that has been established in the southcoast which has created hundreds of employment opportunities in the boat building industry for the local youth.
Jaffna boatyard will have a capacity of over 500 sqm, allowing Sail Lanka Yachting Group to launch vessels up to 50 feet. The construction of the main building has start in October 2021. The facilities will include the training center, classrooms, accommodations, waste and water treatment facilities, offices and the boatyard.
Once the facilities are set up, Tamil speaking students/trainees will be recruited from the Northern Province and all the trainees will undergo training in:
- Multi-skill training including mechanical engineering, electrical, welding, refrigeration & air conditioning and civil works (masonry, plumbing, carpentry).
- Boat Building Training.
- Outboard Motor Mechanic Training.
Today, the shipyard has expertise in infusion, and use of natural composite like jute fibers etc, but the focus will be to introduce new technologies of manufacturing in Sri Lanka.
