Discover the Lantau Yacht Club

World-Class Facilities and Services

The new marina at Lantau Yacht Club (LYC) is taking shape – phase 1 of the marina refurbishment is scheduled for completion in July, and the whole marina will be fully operational by the fourth quarter of this year. Highly anticipated by the yachting community, Lantau Yacht Club is the first new marina to open in Hong Kong in more than a decade.

Marina Projects UK, one of the world’s leading marina consultants, was appointed to advise on the master plan design, berth mix and technical provisions of the LYC Marina. The new Marina, featuring 148 wet berths ranging from 10-60 metres in length, is designed and custom-built according to the highest standards, including the Gold Anchor Scheme 5 Platinum requirements, the rating system used by the best marinas in the world.

The typhoon-proof LYC Marina, able to withstand extreme weather conditions, offers a safe haven for vessels. Its well-built breakwater has proven itself over several decades, including most recently in 2018 when Hong Kong was hit by the strongest typhoon the city has experienced in 30 years. The structural design of the concrete pontoon system was provided by Atkins. The sturdy and robust reinforced pontoon units are carefully engineered to withstand extreme loading forces exerted by superyachts.  In addition, they attenuate strong waves allowing safe and steady access to the berths under all weather conditions. The largest pontoons, being 5-metres wide, allow two-way passage for buggies – the main transport mode within the marina - providing members easy access to their yachts.

The LYC Marina caters for all sizes of yacht, from the smaller leisure yachts up to megayachts. Facilities and services include 24-hour security, individual electricity and water service pedestals, a pump-out station, wi-fi, a soon-to-be introduced 5G mobile network, and a petrol and diesel fuel gas station. The electricity provision is best of its class, and superyachts will be provided with up to 600 Amp of 3 phase shore-power electricity, each being serviced by an individual pedestal for dedicated and stable electricity supply. The LYC service yard offers haul-out, hull cleaning services and antifouling, and has a travel lift of 45 tons for vessels up to 17 metres. Along with all the hardware comes a tailor-made membership and marina management software and concierge service that offers the best-of-class attention to our members.

“We are excited to see the new LYC Marina taking shape. As one of the few marinas catering to superyachts in the region, we have already attracted a lot of interest from yacht owners and industry players since the commencement of membership acquisition in May, especially for the superyacht berths. Hong Kong’s lack of mooring facilities, particularly for superyachts, has long hindered the development of the yacht industry. The opening of the new LYC Marina will attract new visitors to the region and add a boost to high spending and sustainable nautical tourism. We are confident that the new LYC Marina will bring renewed vigour to the yachting community in Hong Kong and in Asia,” said Mr Victor Cha, Deputy Chairman & Managing Director of HKR International Limited (“HKRI”), a shareholder of the developer and operator. As the latest exclusive private yacht club in Asia, LYC’s membership is strictly by invitation only. Members of the Club will be among the few privileged to experience the luxury and leisurely lifestyle of Discovery Bay, an upscale resort-style community. Apart from the LYC clubhouse, Marina and service yard, members can enjoy a series of special offers and exclusive access to the facilities at the clubs and hotel in Discovery Bay; including the 27-hole golf course at the Discovery Bay Golf Club, comprehensive sports and leisure facilities of  Discovery Bay Recreation Club, the infinity pool at Club Siena, and the spa and delicacies at the seaside resort hotel, Auberge Discovery Bay Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is Asia’s most mature yachting market. It has a boating history that spans more than 150 years, and boasts one of the largest pleasure boat fleets in the region. Lantau Yacht Club, strategically located at the very heart of Asia and on the doorstep of Mainland China, is the yacht club of choice for those who wish to embark on yachting journeys to explore Hong Kong, China and the rest of Asia.

Sailors who have cruised in the Caribbean and Mediterranean in recent decades are now looking for new and exotic locations; the Asia Pacific region is fast becoming one of the world’s hottest yachting destinations, and boasts almost unlimited potential. The year-round temperate climate is one of the key ‘pull’ factors of the Asia Pacific. Thriving cities, unique cultures, mouth-watering delicacies, beautiful coastlines, spectacular scenery, largely untouched and pristine waters, some of the richest marine biodiversity in the world, the Coral Triangle, and unlimited water sports and activities make the region even more irresistible. Continual improvement in infrastructure and a growing number of yacht clubs are encouraging a growing number of Asian ultra-high-net-worth individuals (“UHNWIs”) to get on board the nautical lifestyle. In fact, there has been a substantial uptake in yachting in Asia in recent years, driving both marine tourism and yacht chartering.
