Bali Benoa Marina Ground Breaking Ceremony

The Bali Benoa Marina Ground Breaking Ceremony on 22 May 2025 marked a historic milestone in the development of Bali Benoa Marina, Indonesia’s first full-service luxury marina designed to support regional and international yacht tourism. Hosted by PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI) in partnership with Pelindo, the ceremony brought together government leaders, private investors, tourism stakeholders, and media to witness the symbolic launch of a world-class maritime destination and celebrated World Boating Day in Asia.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, emphasized that the development of Bali Benoa Marina will help to advance Indonesia toward world-class maritime tourism. As part of the Benoa Marine Tourism Hub (BMTH), this facility is expected to boost the growth of the cruise tourism sector and strengthen Indonesia’s position on the global sailing map.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for Bali Benoa Marina on Thursday, 22 May, 2025, Deputy Minister Ni Luh Puspa highlighted Indonesia’s vast and promising maritime potential as an archipelagic nation. She stressed that the development of supporting infrastructure for Bali Benoa Marina must be prioritized to maximize its impact. "This project will serve as a catalyst for the development of marinas across Indonesia, from Sabang to Raja Ampat, from Labuan Bajo to Morotai, ultimately positioning Indonesia as a premier global sailing destination," Ni Luh stated, as quoted by kemenpar.go.id. She further explained that the marina’s construction has been made possible through strong collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, the Bali Provincial administration, and key stakeholders, including state-owned port operator PT Pelindo and the local community. She expressed hope that the project would generate widespread benefits for Indonesia, particularly for Bali. "I hope this initiative will bring substantial positive impacts, not only for the Bali Provincial administration but also for the community, local culture, and the natural environment," she said.

Echoing this sentiment, Bali’s Deputy Governor, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, emphasized that the marina’s presence is expected to enhance the development of high-quality and sustainable tourism in Bali, particularly in improving sea travel connectivity. "In the future, this marina could become a hub for international economic growth. Travel to Bali will truly be accessible by land, sea, and air," Giri Prasta remarked. The event was also attended by key figures, including the Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini; PT Pelindo’s Director of Strategy, Prasetyo; President Director of PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI), Ulf Backlund; and Head of the Benoa Class II Port Authority and Harbormaster Office, Aprianus Hangky.

The Bali Benoa Marina project is shaping up to be a transformative addition to Indonesia’s maritime tourism sector. The marina is designed as a full-service facility, reinforcing Indonesia’s position as a premium maritime tourism destination. Spanning 3.3 hectares, the marina will accommodate 180 yachts, including 50 superyachts up to 90 meters in length. It will feature a Premium Yacht Club, Crew Club, MICE facilities, restaurants, offices, and retail spaces, ensuring a comprehensive experience for visitors, local media reported. The project, initiated by PT Pelindo, aligns with Indonesia’s vision for quality and sustainable tourism, integrating modern infrastructure and environmental considerations. The marina is expected to partially open in late 2025, with full operations commencing in 2027. This development is set to attract international yacht tourism, enhance regional connectivity, and boost Bali’s economy, further solidifying its status as a world-class sailing destination.
